Lute retreat
Lute Summer School in the Italian Alps with Bor Zuljan
Lottano, Valchiavenna, Province of Sondrio, Italy
July 13 - 17
August 10 - 15
Lutenist Bor Zuljan offers a residential course for lute players, focusing on repertoire, technique and improvisation.
Up to six participants per session will be admitted. The teaching will encompass all aspects of playing including the development of improvisational skills and it will take the form of both individual lessons as well as group workshops. The evenings are reserved for open jam sessions.
At the end of each session the students will have the opportunity of playing a final shared recital, also in public in the small village church.
The venue is a large house in a rustic and sheltered village of 650m altitude outside Chiavenna (SO). The village offers a tranquil environment immersed in serene Alpine meadows and chestnut forest. There are excellent hiking, cycling and climbing possibilities, while nearby rivers and rock pools offer refreshing swimming opportunities. For urban distraction there is the bustling Renaissance town of Chiavenna nearby.
The accommodation and catering will be run as a not-for-profit venture. The preparation of meals and washing up etc. will be done communally giving all participants a chance to contribute creatively to mealtimes. The organiser will keep the kitchen well stocked with a broad variety of seasonal vegetarian produce, and any suggestions will be followed up on the next shopping expedition.
The house has four spare bedrooms available for four people. For the two or three other participants extra housing will be sought nearby in the village with friendly neighbours. Extra tent spaces will always be available if needed. All sheets and towels will be provided.
Prices per participant for the five days:
Tuition only: € 350-
One-off housing and catering fee for the five days: Eu 160-
The retreat will span a full five days with four days of full-time musical activity, one day will be free with everybody invited to a hiking excursion in the mountains and group lessons and jam sessions in the evening.
